This week, we learned all about Thanksgiving and finished up our unit from last week which was all about Families. We learned that all families are unique and special in their own way, which is what makes our world so wonderful. We also learned more "self-help" skills, practiced our manners, and were encouraged to use kind words and say "Please", "Thank you", and "You're Welcome". We also learned about the origins of Thanksgiving, and the fun things we do on Thanksgiving. We learned that Thanksgiving is all about being grateful, and we are so grateful for our Preschool! Learning and Discovery For our group activities this week, we did so many fun things! On Tuesday, we weaved houses out of construction paper. Weaving was a new skill for many preschoolers and they did a great job! They put paper dots on them to symbolize all the people that live in their house and talked to their teacher buddy about what makes their family special. On Wednesday, we learned a lot of family skills by rotating through stations. At one station, we learned to sweep the floor and scoop it up with a dust pan. At another station we were tasked with picking up all the toys on the floor and putting them in their proper place around the preschool. At the last station, we learned how to set a table, and how to put the tableware in their correct places. These are all great ways that preschoolers can help out their family at home! On Thursday, we talked about traditional Thanksgiving foods. We passed paper versions around of the food that is traditionally eaten on Thanksgiving, such as turkey, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, etc. and then took the food that we liked and glued it on our plate. While passing was a skill on it's own, this was a great opportunity for children to talk about foods that they like and what they eat at home. Free TimeFor free time this week, we really got into the Thanksgiving spirit! We did so many fun language, science, and art activities that were centered around Thanksgiving. Some class favorite stations were making "Indian Corn" (by cutting out a corn cob shape, painting bubble wrap and then stamping the paint onto our corn cob), matching letters in a Turkey themed language activity, and making our own napkin rings at the art table, out of toilet paper rolls and many decorative options. These were sent home on Thursday, in the hopes that you might use them at your table! In the hallway, we played some tossing games with rolled up socks and practiced balancing in an apple picking game by walking along a taped tree to find apples that matched alphabet letters drawn. Preschoolers also made some play doh turkeys, and turkey headbands. At the easel, children got to paint with large feathers instead of paint brushes! These made some really pretty turkey paintings. What a busy week! Candid MomentsBirthdays! We celebrated all our November birthdays this week. Happy Birthday Iza!
