This week, we learned all about different modes of transportation- and there are A LOT! Whether you get around by car or by bike or by foot, we are glad you are here! Our Fun Fact for the week is: Planes are a fairly new invention (they only were created a little over 100 years ago) but have risen to be most people's favorite mode of traveling long distances. In fact there are nearly half a million people in the air at any given time. Isn't that cool!? Learning and DiscoveryOn Tuesday, for our group activity, we made Drivers Licenses. We had to identify our age, hair color, and eye color and then write it down on our license. We then finished it off with a beautiful self portrait and attached pieces of yarn to it so we can wear it around our necks. On Wednesday we did a few physical activities. We practiced throwing and catching balls, balancing multiple ways, and rolling (log roll and somersault) on a mat. On Thursday we had a "snowball" fight with crumpled paper balls. It got crazy! We also played with balloons and tried to keep them from touching the ground. It was a blast. Free TimeOn Tuesday, at the Art table we used our fine motor skills to cut and decorate a piece of paper to look like our favorite mode of transportation. We could choose between boats, cars, and planes! At the Science station we had to classify different types of transportation by where they belonged (For example, boats belong in the water and planes belong in the air), while at the Language table we practiced sorting objects by the letter they began with by picking objects out of a mystery container. It was so much fun! At the Art table on Wednesday, we learned about what the symbols on signs mean and then created our own. At the Language table we played a mystery box game to sort items by beginning letter sound , and at the Science station we raced toy cars down a big ramp to see whose was the fastest! On Thursday, for our Art table activity, we painted transportation vehicles with bright colored paint. We even got to paint WITH some toy cars by dipping the tires in paint. At the Language station we practiced recognizing transportation themed words by tracing them with an expo marker, while at the Science table we had to create a "road" to get our toy car home safely! Outdoor AdventuresWe used our trikes and cars to practice driving this week! Just don't get caught without your license! Candid MomentsTeacher Spotlights!

This Thursday, we took a fun field trip to Ocean Plays indoor play structure, which is located right here in Hillsboro! We had a blast sliding down slides, playing in the ball pit, swinging on the giant swing, eating a lunch of tasty pizza, and just enjoying our time with our preschool and high school friends. Adventures in the Ball PitFun on the Slide!More Fun!Riding the School Bus!This week we became little scientists as we learned all about science and even completed our own experiments! The fun fact for this week is: The metal 'Gallium' has such a low boiling point that it would melt in the palm of your hand! We finished off the exciting week with our field trip to Ocean Plays with all our Senior teachers, and we all had a blast! Check out all the awesome pictures on our field trip blog post! Learning and DiscoveryOn Tuesday, for our group activity, we had three different stations, each with a fun science experiment. Our first station taught us about magnets, and we experimented with which objects in our bowl were magnetic. At our second station we observed that we could immerse a napkin in a jar fully into the water (upside down) and bring it back up completely dry! Our third station taught us about static electricity. We rubbed our balloon on a blanket, and then saw which objects would stick to our balloon. We also loved sticking our balloons to the wall! We also got to play outside and had tons of fun even though it was pretty chilly! On Wednesday we made our own sugar crystals, and we cannot wait to check on them next week and see if they have grown yet! Afterwards we played a fun game that helped us use scientific reasoning to determine an answer. We would all close our eyes, and then one of our preschool friends would go behind a blanket. We had to open our eyes and figure out who was behind the blanket. Then we would keep adding preschoolers to test our observation skills. We had a lot of fun playing this game! Free TimeOn Tuesday, at the Art table, we used shaving cream, a variety of dye colors, and a squeegee to make some amazing marble design printed paper. At the Science station we did a rain cloud experiment and learned about the water cycle. We put shaving cream at the top of a jar of water, and then put dye on top. Then we watched how the "clouds" soon became heavy, and it started to "rain"! At the Language table we practiced making scientific predictions by playing a matching game using different objects in our preschool! At the Art table on Wednesday, we created some amazing art by putting globs of paint on our paper, and then rolled different sized and textured balls on top of our paper to create a some cool designs! At the Language table we learned about weather, and matched articles of clothing to which type of weather you would wear it in, and at the Science station we made a prediction of which objects would float or sink in the oobleck, and then we tested our hypothesis! We had a great time playing in it too! Candid MomentsTeacher Spotlights!
Hands on Activity - Lava Lamp
This week was literally OUT OF THIS WORLD! This week was a full throttle blast off into all things Planets, Stars, and Outer Space related. Our Fun Fact for the week is: Space is completely silent! Because there is no atmosphere- sound has no way to travel. When out on space walks, astronauts use radios to communicate with each other because radio waves can still travel in Space. Learning and Discoveryn Tuesday, for our group activity, we learned about patterns! After Ms. Anne put us in a line to make a "preschooler pattern" of boys and girls! After that, we got to build our own colorful patterns with math cubes! On Wednesday we shared our letter bags! Before Winter Break, Ms. Anne assigned us a letter of the alphabet and challenged us to find some things at home that started with that letter. It was super fun to see all the things the kids brought in! With our preschoolers help, our wonderfully decorated letters will be displayed throughout our classroom next to things that start with that letter! How fun! On Thursday we made beautiful Sun Catchers! We practiced tracing a template of our choice (which was shaped like a star or planet) onto wax paper and used liquid glue to stick pieces of tissue paper onto our traced shape . Once they were all dry, they will be cut out and we can place them in the window to bring out of this world light into our classroom! Free TimeWe had so many great free time activities this week! On Tuesday, at the Art table, we made pictures of the moon by painting a special thick paint on a paper and then stamping circles in it to make craters. At the Language table we made letters by connecting "constellations" with Q-tips. At the Science station we learned about planets and their names. After we were quite proficient in the planets, we did a "Which one does not belong" worksheet. This whole week, at the creation table, we had the chance to make. "rockets" out of paper that we could blow (or "launch") with a straw. At the Art table, on Wednesday, we made space wreaths out of paper plates (painted black) and paper cut outs of stars and planets . They were very cute! At the Language table we made "Name Rockets" where each letter of our name formed a square of the rocket. Once our name was built, we were ready to blast off! At the Science station we learned about how planets orbit around the sun, and moons orbit around planets. Then, with play dough, we shaped our own "orbits" around the sun to roll our marble "planets around. On Thursday, for our Art table activity, we made a whole space picture. We used fun tools, like toothbrushes, to paint on stars, and used glue to paste on different planets and ourselves as an astronaut floating in space! At the Language station we had to "fish" for letters and sort them by upper and lower case, while at the Science table we pretended that our gloves were "space gloves" and had to practice picking up different objects. It was tough! Outside AdventuresIt may be the middle of Winter, but we still love playing outside! Candid MomentsBirthdays!Happy 5th Birthday to Eiad! Thank you for all of the sweet goodies you brought! Teachers of the Week
