Group Activities! This weeks theme was transportation! Each preschooler made their own drivers license to be able to drive on the road in the hallway! There were lines and signs set up in the hallway and the preschoolers had a blast driving themselves and their friends around! During group time, the preschoolers were each given a piece of an alphabet puzzle and together as a class we completed that puzzle while reviewing the order and letters of the alphabet. We also sorted modes of transportation into categories of land, sky and water and continued to share their decorated letter and the items they brought in as well! Table Activities! We did many fun activities with different forms of transportation this week! At the creation table we made boats to race in the water! It was the preschoolers job to build their own boat and be careful to use materials that would not sink in the water! After completing the boats they raced one of their friend's boat by blowing through a straw to blow it to the other side! At the painting easel there were vehicles and boats that they could paint! We made our own cars with cutouts of paper at the art table. At the science table there were long ramps set up and the preschoolers raced cars through them to see which one went fastest. Other Centers!During our other centers this week the preschoolers enjoyed building their own safari and exploring in the sensory table! We had a few transportation related activities and games placed in the free choice area as well, such as the train car counting game. Just For Fun!Rainy Day Activity!Hot Air Balloons!

Our theme during the last two weeks of preschool was outer space! We did many fun art projects and science activities. We also went on our field trip to OMSI where the preschoolers explored and discovered many new things! Take a look at what a fun week we had! OMSI Field Trip!On our trip to OMSI, we enjoyed another trip on the bus and explored the turbine hall, the children's science playground, and the life science room! Check it out! Group Activities!During our group activities this week we enjoyed learning and exploring new things about space and we worked on recognizing, extending and creating patterns! The preschoolers tried a new technique with a flour based paint to design their own rocket. Once painted we microwaved their art and watched as the paint "rose" to create a dough like "puffy paint." So cool! This week we also sent every preschooler home with a letter to decorate and they got to bring in whatever they wanted that started with their letter! This was really fun to see what they found to share with others! Table Activities! This week during our table activities we did many fun activities! At our creation table we made rocket ships and other space creations out of materials such as foam cups and paper! At the language table we did a race to space worksheet. At the art table the preschoolers made constellations with stickers and galaxies with paint, glitter, and stars! They also made a moon scene with themselves as astronauts floating above in space. The preschoolers practiced counting and stacking skills and put on "astronaut" gloves and tried their best to pick up pennies at the science table! Other Centers!During our other centers this week we had a lot of fun cooking delicious meals for our friends and building with blocks! Just For Fun!Rainy Day Activity!Welcome back from break! We had a great first week back. Our theme was super science, and we learned and explored many new things! The preschoolers loved all of the hands on activities and crafts. Take a look at what a great week we had! Group Activities!During our group activities this week we explored many elements of science! The preschoolers put pieces of tissue paper into a small jar and tipped it upside down into a tub of water to discover that the paper stayed dry! Ms. Anne went around the circle and gave each preschooler a different item such as a feather, golf ball, and paper plate! We predicted if one would fall to the ground faster by two preschoolers getting onto chairs and dropping their items to see if their predictions were correct! The preschoolers separated different materials into a category of magnetic or not magnetic. They tested those predictions by using a magnet wand to see what stuck! Table Activities! The preschoolers loved exploring all the different types of science during our table activities! At the language table we practiced letters by using play dough to create the shapes of the letters. We also searched through a tub of orbeez to find foam letters and match them to the letters we saw on the paper. At the creation table the preschoolers used a variety of materials to create a robot! At the art table we made bubble art by blowing into a container of water and paint with a straw to make a bunch of bubbles. Next we set a piece of paper on top of the bubbles leaving the shape of the bubble! We also made hearts with baking soda and vinegar and food coloring. The preschoolers made salt name art by writing their name in glue, then adding salt, and finally decorating with drops of food coloring. We also made robots that could walk with yarn and straws! At the science table we explored the idea of static electricity to see what can stick and what cannot stick to a balloon! We also made bouncy balls! Other Centers!Throughout the rest of the classroom we had so much fun building and engaging in fantasy play in the house and kitchen! The preschoolers loved playing in the snow at the sensory table!
