Welcome to sand and sea week where we learned many things about the beach and ocean, and the creatures that live there! We also have been completing all of our end of the year assessments. We are getting closer to the end of the year but we are still learning lots - so take a look at the fun and exciting week we had! Circle TimeMiss Anne read us a book called, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell. The challenge with this story time is that after we finished listening to the story, our preschoolers had to see if they could remember the order of the items that the old lady swallowed. It was a pretty tough recall challenge! See below... Group ActivityOur preschoolers cut out the items in the story, and had to place them in the order that they could recall from the story. A couple of items were given to them on their paper to help. Free PlayWe explored with the moon sand at the sensory table and built many sand castles! We also have our tent still up so many of us played in there with our friends! Hallway ActivityWe got to play beach volleyball out in the hallway how fun!! Table ActivitiesDuring our table activities throughout the week, we listened to sea shells to hear the waves of the ocean and explored their features, created a "message in a bottle" project, made a starfish using fruit loops, counted and added fish using goldfish crackers, practiced spelling words by feeding a shark, made wiggly jellyfish, and learned many news words relating to sand and sea! Thank you everyone for a great week and we will continue to learn about sand and sea next for our last week of preschool before graduation! We hope you have an awesome week! Rainy Day Activity

This week we learned about the Great Outdoors! We learned about different activities we can do outdoors such as camping, and we talked a lot about the different animals that live out in the wild and what they look like! Take a look at our very exciting week! Group ActivityOne of our group activities this week involved a scavenger hunt! The children were split up into groups and together they went, with their binoculars of course, around the school and outside in the playground to find the animal track that they were assigned to follow. After finding each track, they collected a puzzle piece with a matching color. Once all pieces were gathered, we came back to the room to put together the puzzle and discover their mystery animal! The binoculars we used were from our other group activity we did earlier in the week! Free PlaySince the theme was great outdoors we set a tent up in the classroom for us to play in, we were able to experience what it would be like to camp and stay in a tent! How fun! Also during free play we explored the sensory table with our friends which was filled with sand, flowers, animals and gardening materials! Birthdays!Happy birthday to our friends!! Circle TimeDuring circle time we learned what kind of materials someone would bring with them if they went camping and why! Things such as a sleeping bag, food, clothes, and a map of course! As we each learned about our items, we got to "pack" our items in a big hiking back pack that teacher Violet was wearing. Pretty soon, she was all packed up and ready to hike out of the classroom! Table ActivitiesOur table activities involved learning about animals that live in the wild such as a hedgehog and owl, making our very own trail mix and campfire art, and making bird feeders for our neighborhood birds! A few other photos from the week!Thank you everyone for a successful week! Join us next week as we learn about the theme of Sand and Sea! Rainy Day Activity! Our theme this week was dinosaurs! We learned about all kinds of dinosaurs and their unique names, we also learned that paleontologists are people who study dinosaur bones! There were many fun activities throughout the week such as creating our very own fossil, making our own dinosaurs and breaking ice to discover a dinosaur inside! Take a look at our exciting week! Group ActivityFor our group activity we made fossils! We made the molding out of flour, salt and water and then we took plastic shapes of different dinosaurs, plants, shells and even insects and imprinted them into the dough! Our other activity during the week was creating a gift for Mother's Day, how wonderful! Playing out in the sun!We sure do love the nice weather, hopefully we will see some more sun these next few weeks! Table Activities! At the table activities we practiced writing names of the dinosaurs and even created our own at the art table! We talked about shapes and patterns with some of our dinosaur crafts. Something a little different was that our science table was actually outside one day because we were pretending to be paleontologists to break open ice and discover which dinosaurs were inside! It was cold but it was fun! Hallway Activities In the hallway we had a super fun obstacle course that we went through! Working on our gross motor skills, following a path while holding balloons (our dino eggs) and then placing them into the right bucket (the nest of course)! Free Play!During free play we played dress up, kitchen, played at the sensory table and held our little chick Mr. Fluffers! Sadly he had to leave us at the end of the week and we all miss him so much! He is living now with our culinary teacher with a new chicken family. She notes that he LOVES to be around people the most and is doing well! A few other photos from the week!Thank you everyone for a successful week! We hope everyone had lots of fun and learned a lot about dinosaurs! Join us next week as we learn about the Great Outdoors! Rainy Day Activity! Here's what you'll need... • Printed Dinosaur Skeleton* on brown paper • Pasta (we used penne) • Glue Here's how you make it... 1. Print your skeleton on a piece of brown paper to make it look like the dinosaur bones are in the dirt. 2. Glue the pasta on top of the lines to make your own dinosaur skeleton in the dirt! Although the penne looks more like real bones, another option for this craft is to break up the pasta in to smaller flatter pieces. Another option is to smear glue on your paper and sprinkle sand over top (shake off the excess) to add some real dirt (and texture) to your picture. This week we continued our focus on habitats! We learned more about different animals and where they live! Throughout the week we had many fun activities working on our fine and gross motor skills and we even got to go play out in the sunshine! We also had the reptile man visit us! Join us and take a look at our eventful week! Circle Time!During circle time we did our jobs, rehearsed our songs and got to peek at a real live frog that was found on our playground!! Continuing to learn more about different animals and where they live, we did an exercise where we placed images of animals into their correct habitat! Group ActivityFor our group activity this week we created some pretty still faces! We read a book, called "If I Had Animal Teeth." It was a fun story about all of the different things you could do if you had different animal teeth! The children then got to choose which kind of animal teeth they would like to have and what they would do with them. The results were very creative, somewhat creepy... and hilarious. Playing outside in the sun! What wonderful weather we had for a few days this week, of course we had to go outside and soak up the sun! We rode tricycles, played with a beach ball, played on the toy set, explored the garden area and overall had so much fun! Table ActivitiesSo many fun table activities this week such as coloring a penguin and learning how their waxy skin resembles the wax of a crayon, specifically in repelling water. We identified different snakes, created alligator habitat art and more. Our hallway also saw lots of habitat action as well with our big cardboard blocks. It takes a lot of teamwork to make a habitat! Reptile Man! The Reptile Man came and visited us this week! He showed us all kinds of reptiles such as snakes, lizards, and turtles. We learned about their special features, what they eat and how they hunt, how to take care of them, and how to stay safe around them! We had a lot of laughs and a few scares...it was quite a thrill! We all had the chance to touch the reptiles, or just watch from afar, and some of us even got to hold the reptiles all by ourselves! In the end, a few friends all got together and held the big yellow snake which is known as the Albino Granite Burmese Python! He was big! Thank you everyone for a great week, join us next week as we learn about dinosaurs! Rainy Day Activity! |
