This week we did so many fun winter activities to learn all about winter! We also geared up for our annual winter celebration with songs and special artwork to share with our families. Learning and DiscoveryThis week we had a lot of fun group activities! We had a snowball fight with balloons to celebrate the winter season. We also made winter trees using strips of vinyl stickers. Preschoolers placed their vinyl to create a winter tree landscape on a canvas, then painted over their tape with their choice of wintery colors. They sprinkled salt on the wet paint, which created a snowy effect after drying. On our next class day we got to pull off the vinyl to reveal our beautiful trees! Free TimeWe had so many fun table centers this week! On Tuesday we practiced matching our letters in a snow globe. At the art table we used a white crayon and water color to make ice skating patterns, and then added ourselves as ice skaters! At the science center we got to blow up a balloon using vinegar and baking soda! We also got to play hockey using polar bear paws and balloons. On Wednesday we used jello powder and glue to trace our name and make ourselves a colorful name tag that also smells good! We made a snowman using a sponge brush and cotton swabs. We also got to look for objects in fake snow and learn about them! On Thursday we had an assessment on recognizing our letters, finished all our art projects that we did this week, and we got to have a snowball fight and create forts to hide behind. We also made snowflake crystals by using hot water and salt. We can't wait to see what they will look like after winter break! Candid MomentsThis week, we learned all about the Arctic and the animals that live there through science experiments, art projects, and fun "arctic-y" activities! Learning and DiscoveryThis week, we did so many fun arctic themed activities. On Tuesday, we worked with our high school buddies to make a walrus craft. Preschoolers used a variety of materials to represent the different parts of their walrus. They turned out so cute! On Wednesday, we practiced our letters! Since we finished learning the alphabet this week (With the letters "x", "y", and"z"), we now know how each of the letters sound! Our high school friends show us a flashcard with a picture on it and then we would have to say what the picture was, then identify what letter the word started with. For example, "Apron" starts with "A"! On Thursday, we had a SNOWBALL FIGHT! The "snow" was only paper balls, but it was still fun to pretend! :) Free TimeAt free time, we had the chance to do many stations and do fun arctic activities! At the art table, we painted a picture to look like the Northern Lights, painted a Polar Bear face with fluffy paint, and made a penguin out of construction paper! For science, we did a fun animal matching activity, felt some "snowy" slime, and experimented with melting ice cubes. At the language table, we got the chance to write Thank You notes to Ms. Amy, and do some fun penguin themed letter activities. At the sensory table, we replaced our fall leaves for some winter themed materials (like "snow", cotton balls, arctic animals, etc.). We are really getting in the winter spirit at Preschool! Candid MomentsBirthdaysWe celebrated our Winter Break birthdays this week!

Learning and DiscoveryWe had a lot of fun group activities this week! We got to make symmetrical African masks, by painting a pattern on one side, then folding our paper in half to make a symmetrical design. We also made maracas by putting beans inside a paper plate, and then decorated ours with stickers, color, and streamers. In small groups we explored difference games inspired from around the world such as spinning tops, a sombrero game, marble rolling, and a stick jumping game.
