This week in preschool we learned all about the winter season, and finished off a fun week with our winter party! You can check out the photos in the Winter Party Blog Post! Our fun fact for this week is that the days are shortest in winter because Winter Solstice is when the sun is the farthest from the equator. Don't forget to check out the survey at the bottom of each blog to test your knowledge about our theme each week! Learning and DiscoveryFor Tuesday's group activity we used different shades of blue and white paint to make a beautiful winter background. We added a finishing touch by sprinkling on some fake snow. After taking some creative "catching snow" pictures, our teachers surprised us at the winter party with the final product - Winter is so inspirational! On Wednesday we did a giant puzzle of the alphabet as a class, and talked about objects that we knew began with each letter. Then we bundled up and went outside! For our group activity on Thursday, we split into small groups and practiced our alphabet letter identification and sequencing by putting all our letters into a long line. Afterwards, in lieu of going outside we got to have an extra free time with our buddies! Free TimeWe had so many great winter-themed free time activities this week! On Tuesday, at the Art table, we made snowmen decorations, with their buttons, scarf, and fun stickers to add our own creative touch. At the Science station we learned about symmetry while making snowflakes using mirrors and q tips, while for our Gross Motor activity we played a fun movement game using dice! And at the Language table we put together name snowmen, and used many different materials like stickers, snowflakes, and ribbons to decorate our snowman. At the Art table on Wednesday, we made our very own ornament using pom-poms, paper, and string among other materials. At the Language table we played a matching game with mittens that had letters written on them, and at the Science station we made an awesome melting snowman using paint, markers, and glue. On Thursday, for our Art table activity, we made winter trees using a variety of materials, including sponges and bubble wrap. They were so much fun to create! At the Language station we had a fun snowman activity to practice our alphabet, while at the Science table we made salt crystal snowflakes! We loved the texture the salt created, and learning all about the structure of snowflakes! Outdoor FunCandid MomentsTeacher Spotlight
