This week, we had a wonderful time learning all about Spring! We talked about weather, plants, and the animals that come out during springtime! Learning and DiscoveryWeather, and rainbows, and clouds, OH MY! Our week was jam packed full of great group activities. On Tuesday, we learned about the clothing we wear in different seasons, and made a chart to show what we discussed. On Wednesday, we learned about the colors in a rainbow and their order (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple) and then made our own. Mrs. Anne had set out different colored objects around the room, which we then had to find, and put in rainbow order. We ended up with a HUGE rainbow made completely out of things in our own classroom! On Thursday, we read the book It Looked Like Spilt Milk (by Charles G. Shaw) and learned about how clouds can make different shapes in the sky. We walked outside with our high school buddies and set out blankets to lay on. We watched for cool looking clouds and talked to our high school buddies about what we saw. After that, we went inside and made our very own clouds (out of shaving cream and glue) into a design of our own. However, some of us were so enamored with the feeling of the shaving cream mixture, that we spent more time just smearing it around and squishing it in our hands! We dictated a sentence that our high school buddies wrote down, that said "It looks like spilt milk! But it isn't. It is a... Dinosaur, bunny, my mom, etc..." We had a blast! Free TimeWe absolutely love spring here at preschool! We made so many cute crafts and participated in so many exciting activities during free time. On Tuesday, at the art table, we practiced our fine motor skills by cutting, gluing, and sponge painting a toilet paper roll butterfly. They turned out so wonderful that we decided to hang them up in our classroom. At our science table, we discovered all the different parts of a plant, like the stem, leaves, flower petals, roots, and seeds. Finally, at the language table, we learned to match and spell spring clothing related words (Like "Rain boots" and "sunglasses"). We also did a gross motor activity in the hallway where we hula hooped, and threw rings over cones. On Wednesday, we made a paint dot rainbow mobile at the art table (Which is also hanging up in our classroom! :), explored how bees pollinate flowers (at the science table), and rolled a dice to discover what letter some "spring" themed words begin with (such as "sun", "rain", and "nest"). On Thursday, we had a REALLY cool science station where we learned how the water cycle works. We had a jar of clean water, which we then sprayed some shaving cream (for clouds) over, and then dripped a few drops of food coloring into that (rain). We then watched as the food coloring slowly dribbled into the water. We learned all about condensation, precipitation, and evaporation. It was definitely a class favorite! We also practiced cutting and mixing paint colors while we made paper plate flowers at the art table, as well as matched rhyming words (such as "run", "fun", and "sun"). We had a gross motor activity where we collected paper bouquets of flowers and then did what the flower said on it (for example, run, skip, or jump). We are so excited that the sun is shining, the weather is warming up, and Spring is in the air! Candid Moments
