Circle TimeThere are a lot of sea creatures that have very interesting features. They developed these unique features to adapt to their specific habitat (ocean zone). Let’s explore a few of them:
Can you spot the cuttlefish? He is camouflaged somewhere in each of these pictures. If you can't find him, that's alright - it's a bit tricky. If you want to see more cuttlefish camouflage, there are many youtube videos all about it. (Answers will be at the bottom of this blog post)
Jellyfish -- "Best Floater" The delicate blob-like jellyfish is a very simple creature typically found in the Sunlight Zone. Some have been seen in deeper waters though. Jellyfish are actually made up of 95% water. They do not have brains, blood or even a heart. Jellyfish have a bell-shaped body with only one opening where they eat and discard waste. Yuk! They either squirt water from their mouth to move around or float along with the ocean currents. Jellyfish may look soft and squishy but they have stinging cells attached to long tentacles hanging down from their body. These tentacles are used to catch prey and fight off predators. Be careful, jellyfish are hard to see; sometimes they are a clear blob in the water. People usually get stung by accidentally touching a jellyfish.
