This week, we learned all about being healthy, from head to toe. We focused a lot on healthy foods, keeping our muscles big and strong, and taking care of our body. Learning and DiscoveryWe had so much fun this week with all our group activities! On Tuesday, we practiced exercises that will keep our body healthy! We practiced throwing and catching a ball, rolling over (and even doing a somersault), jumping rope, and standing on one foot. On Wednesday, we learned about the importance of keeping our body clean. So we made soap! We combined soap flakes, water, and even our favorite scent! We then shaped our soap bar with our hands, and put a special surprise gem in the middle! They are drying right now, but we will be able to bring them home next week! On Thursday, we learned about our "5 senses". We took multiple materials (such as play dough, feathers, marshmallows, and more) and glued them to a piece of paper. Then, with the help of our High School friends, we wrote down what we thought each of the materials felt like. We had so much fun! Free TimeThis week, there were so many fun things to do at our Free Time table stations. They all centered around keeping our body clean and healthy. At one station, we got to practice flossing and brushing a fake pair of teeth. At another station, we practiced spelling out healthy food words (like "Apple", "Grape", etc.). At yet another station, we were able to paint using FOOD! We dipped peppers, apples, carrots, and other fruits and vegetables in paint and then stamped them onto paper. That was definitely a class favorite! Some other stations included learning about water by dying celery, decorating a paper tooth while talking about what makes our teeth dirty or unhealthy, making a fire engine out of construction paper, and more! Candid MomentsTeacher AmyThis week, we met a new teacher- Ms. Amy! Next Thursday, Ms. Amy will be substituting for Ms. Anne. Ms. Amy came and helped out in the preschool on Tuesday and Wednesday and she had a great time! She holds a degree in Early Childhood and has children in many levels of education here in HSD...well, one off to college now! She brings some great experience to our classroom and we are so glad that she can be here in our absence. It was nice for the preschoolers to meet her, and for her to get to know the preschool!
